About Me
Michelle Smith
SURFACE PATTERN
&
TEXTILE DESIGNER
I am a surface pattern and textile designer based in the beautiful countryside of Wiltshire, England.
I love colour and experimenting with ways of making images and patterns. I use traditional techniques like drawing, painting, printing, collage and sewing along with modern digital techniques and photography to create artwork and designs.
I am interested in history, architecture and the natural world and I use these to influence my choice of colour and imagery to create designs which reflect my interest in the world around me.
I did a degree in glass and printmaking at the University of Wolverhampton and have always loved decorating surfaces be it glass, paper or fabric.
I have always been drawn to fabrics and interiors and so I finally decided to follow my yearning to design fabrics for interiors and did a HND in Textiles course at New College, Swindon. I loved the course and I have found what I really love doing.
I have worked on projects with the National Trust and the military charity SSAFA. I have exhibited at Marlborough Open Studios and as part of the Delving Deep exhibition in Wiltshire.
I design and make my own collection of cushions and lampshades which are available directly from me. I am happy to undertake commissions for your home or project.
I love to collaborate and warmly welcome new partnerships for licensing and commissions.
