The Horniman Museum

The Horniman Museum in Forest Hill, London is a place of my childhood.  My grandparents lived around the corner and I spent many happy hours looking at the remarkable collection of artefacts from every corner of the globe collected by Tea Merchant Frederick Horniman.

The museum has a wonderful musical instrument collection as well as a natural history collection featuring stuffed animals from all over the world including its famous Walrus. The museum is surrounded by beautiful gardens complete with a butterfly house and animal farm which have amongst it's inhabitants some alpacas.

After a visit to the Museum I used it's collections as inspiration for a collection of designs that were produced using digital and screen printing techniques.  I focused on 3 main areas of the museum's collection.

  • The World Collection - focusing on objects that relate to tea.

  • The Music Instrument Collection

  • The Alpacas - firm favourites of visitors of all ages.
